Captain John’s father started the family’s passion for fishing by captaining one of the original Pier 5 charter boats in the 1940’s and 1950’s. Pier 5 stood at what is now Bayside Marketplace in downtown Miami. It was a popular tourist attraction, a bustling fish market and a thriving environment for sport fishing - charter captains here helped with the creation and development of several fishing techniques, including kite fishing. The most popular lures were the drone 3 ½ and 4 spoons and live baiting was unheard of. Note the clothing and the amount of fish displayed.
