Family RendezvousReport Date: August 8, 2016Summer is family vacation time and we've been hosting many families. We've been fishing with a lot of families in town to catch a cruise ship, or simply local family get-togethers. So it was on Thursday when we took a family of three out fishing. We stopped by the bait boat to secure some pilchards and google eyes before header offshore to the fishing grounds. Captain John setup his trolling spread down the edge of the third reef. The party quickly captured two small barracudas, but the usual bigger bonitas of summer were hiding. So John made a run to his favorite tilefish deep dropping spot. Not ones to miss any opportunity, the mate put live baits out on the two long riggers before sending the deep drop-rig down. Before the deep drop baits made it to the bottom, a nice 28 lb. bull dolphin charged the live baits on the surface. Soon after, the deep drop baits found the bottom and were swallowed up by a hungry tilefish. So the fight was on for the dolphin and a tile fish. It wasn't long before the mate gaffed the frisky bull dolphin and flipped the tilefish into the boat. Later, one more tilefish made it over the gunnel.
The anglers were happy but ready to return to the dock. Once the pictures were taken, the mate carved up the dolphin and walked the clients up to our neighboring bar and grill. The manager of the restaurant took their order and in no time the anglers were eating a scrumptious lunch (pictured below) and telling their fishing tales to the other diners. We at Bayside have a good relationship with our two neighboring restaurants -they know we ice the catch right away and they are thrilled to create meals for our anglers.
