It's a Family Affair

This morning we had a last minute half-day fishing trip with a nice family visiting us from New York State. Our guests were hoping to target sailfish. When we arrived on the edge, the wind had completely subsided - sailfish can be scarce in these conditions.

Undaunted, mate John put the live baits in the outriggers and sent one bait down into the depths. It didn't take long before the bottom rod was singing and the fight was on. In unusual fashion, the crew never speculated on the species, but they very surprised to see a nice dolphin come up on the down line. Our guests were thrilled and the event was celebrated with a family picture.

It didn't take long before the sailfish the family wanted made his entry into the spread. With its bill clearly out of the water, slashing from side to side, it raced up and engulfed the long rigger bait. A few minutes later, the sailfish was tagged and released to fight another day. The action continued as two kingfish bites rounded out the day.

Our from up north, were very satisfied with the trip and vowed to return on their next visit to Miami.
