Sailfish on the Edge

During the Christmas holiday a fun loving family chartered the Blue Waters for an afternoon of fun. After teasing each other on who could capture the most herring and pilchards at the bait buoy, the boat charged offshore looking for a well-defined edge of blue water for fishing.

It took some looking, but by the Fowey lighthouse, the edge of the Gulf stream was in 140 feet of water. The mate made quick work of deploying the kite, rigger baits, and down line. The effort was rewarded quickly with a sailfish which devoured the short kite bait. The angler worked the light tackle spinning reel and stand up rod, and after 20 minutes, the fish was at the boat.

Here the proud angler watched as the fish was tagged and released. Several other bites of kingfish and some mahi followed but the family loved the sailfish fight the best. They plan on coming back in April to target the spring sailfish bite.
